My name is Fenna, and I am a researcher at the Fryske Akademy studying the grammar of Frisian and related languages. As a native speaker of Frisian, I study Frisian not only as a language in itself, but also for what it can tell us about the structure of human language more generally.
My research focuses on morphology and syntax. Working within the Nanosyntactic framework, I study how these domains interact and how patterns that are often treated as exceptions can be explained as part of a broader grammatical system. I am interested in linguistic variation within and across the Frisian languages, and in what it can reveal about grammatical structure. Recently, I have worked on topics such as different types of infinitives and breaking.
